5th Autumn Optimist Meeting 45th Ezio Torboli Trophy at Fraglia Vela Riva - Day 1

by Elena Giolai 14 Oct 2022 22:39 BST 14-16 October 2022

Optimists are back in the limelight on Garda Trentino and at the Fraglia Vela Riva for the Optimist Meeting, which however is not the Easter record one with over a thousand participants, but the autumn one, the 5th Autumn Meeting Optimist, 45th Ezio Torboli Trophy.

And 360 helmsmen from around 20 nations answered the 'call' of this event, which started on Friday 14 October and will end on Sunday. Despite a thick fog, there was no shortage of southerly wind, which provided three fast races for the three junior batteries and the only one for the cadets; a medium-light wind that entertained everyone.

Very international the junior top five after the first day with 4 nations in the top 5 positions: the Ukrainian Madonich, already winner of this year's Easter Meeting, confirmed his strong performance, leading the provisional ranking with 3 firsts.

Second place for Alberto Avanzini (CN Bardolino) and third for the Norwegian Hopstock. Italy again in fourth place with Fraglia Vela Riva's Jesper Karlsen, followed by the American Travis Greenberg in fifth place. First female was the other Fraglia's Victoria Demurtas, an excellent sixth overall.

Among the youngest cadets with two firsts and a seventh is leading Vittoria Berteotti, athlete of Fraglia Vela Riva and daughter of coach Mauro; Mia Paoletti (CV Portocivitanova-3-5-4) is at her wheel; third the Latvian William Osipovs.
