The Women's Regatta returned to Double Bay Sailing Club last weekend with a strong cohort of youth sailors.
With the goal of inspiring women to regularly sail and race the ILCA dinghy, the event included yoga in the morning, group breakfast, sailing-specific workshops, competitive racing, and a cocktail party to network with other sailors.
The regatta is the only ILCA4 / ILCA6 event held in Australia solely for women. It offers the new generation of ILCA sailors an insight into women-only International Laser Class events, and prepares them for competing on the world stage.
"It was remarkable to see women of all ages competing together at a very high level; from recent graduates of junior classes to seasoned Masters sailors, the regatta was a great display of the popularity of the ILCA dinghy," said James Tudball, Youth Sailing Representative of Double Bay Sailing Club.
"By coming together for a mutual love of sailing, the event provided so many young women increased confidence in larger fleets, and an opportunity to make new friends," said Tory Epworth, Secretary of Double Bay Sailing Club.
"The importance of recognising and promoting women in sailing is an integral part of our club's culture," said Steven London, Commodore of Double Bay Sailing Club.
