BIA members involved with the supply, installation and service of marine diesel engines should note that the Australian Government is currently evaluating the potential for a new standards regime to manage emissions from non-road diesel engines, which would include marine engines over 130kW.
Australia currently has no regulations to control noxious emissions from non-road diesel engines, and options being considered will include no change to current arrangements, voluntary and regulatory options. A cost-benefit analysis report of the options has been produced and a series of webinars is now being presented to discuss the report with specific industry segments. Singapore's flourishing leisure marine industry has been bolstered with SG Marine Guide launching the Singapore Yachting Festival ("SYF") which will take place on 27-30 April 2023 at ONE degrees15 Marina Sentosa Cove. To fill the void of the postponed Singapore Yacht Show, the Singapore Yachting Festival will put an end to speculation in the market of multiple yacht shows competing to launch in Singapore. In turn, SYF will act as a stopgap to enable a fully prepared and promoted yacht show to happen in 2024. Singapore has long been regarded as a gateway and hub of Asia's marine industry, the Singapore Yachting Festival will reinforce the exciting growth of the yachting industry by providing an event platform for world-leading yacht builders, water-sport toys, and lifestyle brands to showcase their products for the ever-increasing appetite of the Singapore and Asia audience.
The annual ASMEX Conference has gained notable momentum over the 12 years and continues to attract a significant presence of Australian and international members of the marine industry both as speakers and delegates. ASMEX 2023 will be held from Tuesday 23 May to Wednesday 24 May in the lead up to the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (SCIBS). ASMEX 2023 will include a structured Superyacht Conference followed by networking drinks held at the InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort on Tuesday May 23. The following day, delegates will enjoy industry factory and yard tours culminating in an exciting on-water networking event. The Australian Marine Industry Awards Gala Dinner will be held on the evening of Wednesday May 24 also at the InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort.
As the Asia Pacific region grows as a major boating market, European interest increases. The "Nautor's In Conversation with Campaign" continues focusing on the Asia Pacific Area, one of the biggest developing markets for sailing yachts.
Olivier give an overview on Nautor Swan in Asia Pacific: The Asia Pacific Region is a vast territory but our region has principally pocket markets. Nautor Swan in the APAC was already recognized and very well accepted in the 70's and 80's as the top brand of sailing yachts particularly in Japan, Australia and Hong Kong. Japan traditionally is a very mature yacht market and the marinas built then were for narrow classic yachts up to 15 metres in length. As these marinas got full very quickly, yachts were and are still stored ashore on cradles and launched only when their owners want to go day sailing. Australia/New Zealand is different, the yachts are usually used intensively for local or long-distance cruising to the South Pacific or racing in Sydney Harbour or entering the Rolex Sydney to Hobart race. For almost 20 years Sail magazine has been awarding the "Best Boats of the Year" over several categories and sizes. In 2023, "Sail" decided to simply honour the Top 10 boats. The X-Yachts X4.3 has been awarded a place in the Top 10 boats for 2023. The first X4.3 MKII was launched in Sydney earlier this month and is already turning heads in Sydney's Pittwater. Meanwhile Princess Yachts announced this week that KPS Capital Partners, LP ("KPS") has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire a controlling equity interest in the luxury yacht builder. Existing shareholders will retain ownership in the company. KPS Capital Partners to acquire controlling interest in Princess Yachts (Holdings) Limited, Investment will accelerate company's growth and innovation, Existing shareholders to retain ownership in the company. Completion of the transaction is expected in the first quarter of 2023 and is subject to customary closing conditions and approvals.
Not forgetting the Fisho's, Stacer Australia has announced the launch of its latest offering, the Stacer 359 Proline SE and Stacer Proline 379 SE, perfect for inland fishing enthusiasts. Based off the popular Proline series, the Proline SE has all the benefits of the original whilst incorporating deeper side sheets. This feature makes it more ideal for larger dams and lakes and is an added safety feature when the little ones are onboard. Other standard features include two aluminium bench seats (one with a glove box), a transducer bracket and safety rails. Available options include a bimini cover to keep off the worst of the sun, rod holders, carpeted fuel tank rack and paint/vinyl wrap.
Global marine electronics leader Raymarine and autonomous boat navigation provider Avikus, have announced the signing of a multi-year Exclusivity Business Partnership Agreement (EPA) at the 2023 Discover Boating Miami International Boat Show. The two companies will exclusively cooperate on development and launch of the world's first autonomous leisure boat solution, the Raymarine x Avikus NeuBoat. In addition, they will develop and launch a full product family of autonomous leisure boat systems designed for different boat sizes, types and uses.
And finally, an opportunity to own a part of the marine industry. Technical water apparel brand Zhik has released an introductory video to launch a crowd funding campaign giving everyday sailors and loyal customers the opportunity to become shareholders and invest in the company's future success. Registration is now open following one of Zhik's most successful years, with sales growing 40% in the financial year ending June 2022. Zhik are inviting sailors, brand followers and water sport enthusiasts to register. Successful investors will receive VIP perks associated with their level of investment. Triple Olympic medallist, Mat Belcher, who stepped up from the Zhik Board to take over as CEO in October 2022, is leading the equity crowd funding campaign to raise AUS $4m to drive future growth. "This campaign kicks off an exciting new chapter for Zhik. Our investment plan is centred around continuing to drive our digital capabilities and working closely with our extensive trade partners to expand into new territories and grow market share," explains Mat. "Plus, we want to continue investing in developing more sustainable technical and lifestyle products, whilst expanding our range for the broader sailing, boating and watersports markets."
