OptiOrange international Optimist class regatta at Real Club Nautico Valencia - Overall

by RCNV Press 6 Mar 2023 06:19 GMT 2-5 March 2023

The Optiorange 2023, an international regatta organized by the Real Club Náutico de Valencia that has been held since last Thursday, closes with the champions Travis Greenberg and Olha Lubianska topping the boys' and girls' podiums, with Mehmet Erkut Budak and Antonina Dziekanska winning U13 titles.

A last day with everything to decide and that, after the three races completed today, only the American Travis Greenberg has been able to defend the first place with which he started the day. Antonina Dziekanska, on the other hand, has not had the same luck, although she had secured the first place in U13.

Ukrainian Olha Lubianska took over from Polish Dziekanska as first female. Lubianska has gone from more to less in this last day, sealing a first place, in the next two races she scored 21st and 54th place, numbers that have also been on a par with those achieved by the sailors from Poland, with the exception of the first race. With results of 69-60-37 this has lost the first place in the overall results but not in SUB13.

The men's podium closes with Greenberg scoring 63 points, followed by Sweden's Henric Wigforss who placed 67, while Spain's Leo Zabell (CNM Benalmádena) takes the bronze with 83 points. As for the women and next to Lubianska have been classified the Valencian Blanca Ferrando (RCN Valencia) and the Polish Dziekanska.

THe international podium in SUB13 men has Mehmet Erkut Budak accompanied by the Estonian Robert Matt and the Finnish Sami Hietalahti. As for the girls Dziekanska grabs the gold, while silver and bronze are awarded to the Spanish Mª Antonia Peñalver (CN Mar Menor) and Ukrainian Ahnieshka Madonich.

The numbers of this regatta have been spectacular, with 455 sailors representing 25 countries. Magnificent wind conditions in a unique course! It has been possible to complete the 12 races scheduled in the program, 6 of them in the qualifying round for all groups, all five, and 6 in the final series.

Good organization on land and excellent technical staff on the water have been the keys to the success of this regatta in its fifth year.

The trophy ceremony held at the RCNV Race Base was attended by Santiago Ruiz, representing Coca-Cola; Carlos Torrado, president of the Sailing Federation of Valencia; Joaquín Valero, president of AECIO, accompanied by Sergio Ferrando, Secretary and Delegate Optimist Comunitat Valenciana; Marisa Arlandis, president of the RCN of Valencia, accompanied by Andrés Arlandis and José Mª Escudero, Commodore and Sailing Vocal respectively.
