Star Open at Norfolk Broads Yacht Club

Nine Stars descended on Norfolk Broads Yacht Club for the Star Open, a club record in recent history. Competitors from as far as Lancashire ventured to the event, attracted by the largest concentration of boats in the UK and the promising signs of the class's revival.

The fleet's rejuvenation was helped by the introduction of two fleet boats available for club members to borrow. This initiative attracts young and interested members who otherwise wouldn't have had the opportunity to participate in Star racing.

The visiting Murrays displayed a strong performance, securing a victory on the first day characterized by light and fickle winds. Nick Eastwood and Will Pank closely followed, constantly swapping positions throughout the race. Unfortunately, the second race had to be cancelled due to unstable wind conditions.

On the second day, the breeze picked up slightly, three races compensated for the missed race on the first day. Ian Tims joined the competition, sailing in a borrowed boat, showing skill and determination around the course. Colin Murray managed to hold him off until the final sprint to the finish line but a bad shift meant he fell to second place. Will once again finished third, sailing in the fleet boat, engaging in fierce battles with Nick and Steve throughout the race.

Determined to rectify their performance in the first race of the day, the Murrays raced relentlessly and convincingly clinched a victory. Ian and Will closely trailed behind them. However, in the last race, the Murrays had a momentary lapse in concentration, missing a big shift at the start and subsequently being overtaken by both Ian and Will. Ian and Will maintained their positions at the sharp end of the fleet until the end.

A great weekend was had by all and we would like to thank NBYC and The Yeoman Class for their help in organising and ongoing hospitality towards the class.
