The Swan European Regatta in Turku, the bi-annual event organized by Nautor Swan, ClubSwan Racing, the City of Turku, Turku Yacht Club, Merikeskus Forum Marinum and Sunborn Events, is welcoming more than 30 Swans in the Baltic waters, from tomorrow, July 19th, until the 23rd.
The maritime area of Forum Marinum will be the heart of this iconic and spectacular event, where the history of Swan yachts will be on display with models of all ages.
From the very first Swan 36 Tarantella to the latest model of the range, three of the brand-new Swan 55s, May, Fujin and Truelove, the Finnish yard and its owners are participating with a great passion and attachment to the brand, in an astonishing fleet, representing heritage and contemporary models.
Several Swan teams are gathering in the Turku Archipelago to enjoy daily coastal racing, mixing the beauty of sailing with a fair competition.
The Swan 45 Aurora is confirming her participation and will try to confirm their amazing performance in the 2021 edition, where she conquered the trophy with an en-plein (1-1-1).
The Swan 36 Tarantella, owned by the yard itself will be helmed by Lorenzo Giacomuzzi with an all-female crew. The whole crew is part of Nautor Swan's team, representing various departments of the company. The team at the yard has been taking care of Tarantella for a long time, since her refit voluntarily carried out by the team, including retired employees, on occasion of the Swan 50th Anniversary in 2016 to participate to this important milestone celebrated in Turku and then on the occasion of the Rolex Swan Cup.
The crew onboard is very determined to sail fiercely and confirm that, no matter what, a Swan is a Swan, aiming for a podium once again this year, after the 3rd place achieved in 2021.
Tarantella is at the centre of extra-work activities the yard organizes for its community, like sailing school for women, trips for guests and staff, and much more.
From the first model to the very latest of the Swan range: three of the brand-new Swan 55 will take part to the event to put at test their boats and their own abilities in this charming area of Finland before continuing their voyage to their home waters.
Giovanni Pomati, Nautor Group CEO comments: "The Swan European Regatta is an important step in our regatta calendar for multiple reasons. The Baltic Sea is our home, where it all started 57 years ago, the place where Finnish people believed in a dream and did their best to make it come true. Finland is where Nautor was born and where it continues growing with beautiful boats known all around the world.
A special thanks goes to the City of Turku, which with its impeccable organization, makes this event an occasion to revamp the love for the sport of sailing, for Swan boats and celebrates the will to be part of a family. Turku is the place to be to award our home port and to thank the people of this region, driven by great passion and talent, that helped make Nautor Swan a strong brand.
The competition in Airisto can be followed on a big screen on the riverside at Forum Marinum, while a rich social events programme has been organized after the races, in a festive atmosphere with music performances and parties.
Turku Castle will be the setting of two very important and awaited events. On Friday 21st the organizers will host an exclusive owners' dinner in a fairy tale atmosphere, while on Saturday 22nd crew and family are invited to attend the Prize-giving ceremony at the full-rigged Frigate Suomen Joutsen and to follow the Crew Party at Forum Marinum.
"It is a great pleasure and honour to organise the Swan Regatta for the fifth time in Turku. This bi-annual event is a major summer maritime event in the Turku area, but also a tight racing event with more than 30 boats coming from Finland, USA, Holland and Switzerland. Special thanks for organising the event go to the City of Turku, with whom it has been a pleasure to cooperate", says Samuli Salanterä, Nautor Board Member and Turku Yacht Club Honorary Commodore.
