The finale of the IW Youth and Junior Championship Series took place at Gurnard Sailing Club on Saturday. Preceding series events at Brading Haven Yacht Club, Yarmouth Sailing Club, Royal Solent Yacht Club and Royal Victoria Yacht Club had seen close competition between 48 Island sailors.
Race Officer Mark Harrison set a short inshore course in a north westerly that was forecast to build through the afternoon. Race 1 was held in a medium strength breeze which then increased rapidly for races 2 and 3, providing testing conditions for the young sailors. In Regatta Fleet, Penny Hall took first overall followed by Matilda Uren and Freddie Harrison. Close competition in the Tera Sports saw Cass Day take the win ahead of Jasper Jenkinson and Harry O'Callaghan. Samuel Leather won from Maia Uren in the Tera Pros, while Will Bradley was the only ILCA 4 to compete.
In the overall championship series which brings together results from the events at each of the clubs, Freddie Harrison won Regatta Fleet ahead of Penny Hall and Theo Barton. Rafe Bradley topped the Tera Sports ahead of Jasper Jenkinson and Harry O'Callaghan. First Girl in the Tera Sports was Emily Leather. Samuel Leather won the Tera Pro Fleet with Maia Uren second and Bea Whishaw in 3rd. In the ILCA 4s, first went to Will Bradley ahead of Tom Yates and Alex Biddle.
Thank you to UKSA for supporting Regatta Fleet prizes and to also a huge thank you to Spinlock for overall series prizes.
