RS Tera South West Squad Training 2024 at Paignton Sailing Club

by Peter Solly 26 Feb 20:46 GMT 24 February 2024

In a window between two wet and windy days, the South West Tera Squad were blessed with almost perfect conditions on Saturday - sun, blue sky and nice 8-15 knot winds. Despite various members of the squad being ill and unable to come, it was a strong turnout and much fun was had.

Coached by UK Tera Class Association coach, Caitlin Morley, this week the Squad focused on mark roundings.

After an initial briefing ashore, sailors launched, and had a great morning in the bay, working on windward and leeward mark roundings. They came assure for a welcoming pasta lunch, cooked by volunteers from hosts Paignton Sailing Club, before going afloat again for further mark rounding work, this time including leeward gates. This also gave good opportunities to work on practising finding clear air going downwind.

Later, the squad combined with the SWYSA Topper and Laser squads who were training at the same time, for informal races.

Thanks to Coach Caitlin, and all of the parent volunteers who helped organise, and who were on the water in safety boats and coach boats. A huge thank you to Paignton Sailing Club for hosting such a great event, and making everybody feel so welcome.

The next Tera Squad event is at Royal Torbay Yacht Club on 9th March
