J/24 North American Championship at St. Petersburg Yacht Club, Florida - Day 2

by Julie & Christopher Howell 14 Apr 00:30 BST April 10-14, 2024

The middle day of the J/24 North American Championship hosted by St. Petersburg Yacht Club in Florida featured three more races. Winds started beautifully at 14-16 knots but decreased throughout the day, resulting in some TLE (time limited expired) in the final contest.

Travis Odenbach's Honeybadger earned all top-three placements to launch into the top position at 11 net points. The discard race came into play, shaking up the standings for the 23 J/24s. Tony Parker's Bangor Packet stayed in the hunt at 15 net points, and John Mollicone's American Garage dropped a UFD from Friday to move into the bronze position overall. Leading the Corinthian division is Mike Stasko's Redline.

Jasper Van Vliet's Evil Twin rocked the opening contest Saturday, ahead of Parker's Bangor Packet and Odenbach's Honeybadger. Odenbach gained his first bullet of the Championship in race five, trailed by Mollicone's American Garage and Stasko's Redline. Mollicone closed the day with a victory, headed to shore with George Braddon's Bogus and Odenbach.

Racing concludes Sunday. Complete results available here.
