Celebrating 125 Years of Sailing

Despite the cold wind and threat of rain, 158 visitors braved the overcast weather and visited the Blackwater Sailing Club's Open Day on Saturday 27th April to discover sailing and experience the wonderful facilities on offer.

The visitors including 57 children were welcomed to the Club and given taster sessions with experienced sailors in Quests and Zest dinghies on the Club's lake, a safe environment for those trying sailing for the first time. Later as the tide came in, they were taken out in cruisers and powerboats and experienced being afloat on the estuary in this beautiful part of the county.

Allan Hunt, Rear-Commodore said: "I was delighted that so many local visitors as well as those from further afield joined us for our Open Day, particularly as it was so chilly.

Everyone said it had been very enjoyable experience and how much they had been made to feel welcome. Some joined the Club there and then and others we hope will be joining us soon. We welcome anyone who is interested in sailing to contact us via our web site to arrange a visit.

We are a family friendly club and attract sailors of all abilities, from novices to those who successfully compete internationally as well as those who'd rather keep their feet dry and enjoy the social life. The Club is run by our members and the Open Day would not have been possible and run so smoothly without the huge army of our volunteers. On behalf of the Club, I'd like to thank them all for all for their hard work and efforts."
