Musto Lark National Championships 2024 at Weymouth Sailing Club - Overall

by Samuel Bailey 30 May 14:38 BST 26-29 May 2024

Day 4 of the Musto Lark National Championships saw much to play for despite Tom & James having a healthy lead in first place. Stuart & Nick, Ed & Holly and Chris & Nick all entered the day on equal points for second place.

The winds were still not to be laughed at but certainly the most manageable of the championships. An overnight swing saw breeze now coming from over Weymouth town and introducing some large fluctuating shifts to spice things up for the final day. Particularly in race two where team 2536 Samuel & Kamila were seen with big grins on their faces as they became pathfinder on fortunate port bias shift. However the race officer also spotted the shift, so race 2 was postponed 30seconds before the final gun to re-square up the course and wipe off 2536's big grins.

It was Ed and Holly however that dominated the day, taking 3 race wins from overall leaders Tom & James who arguably found the day challenging with scores of 2nd, 8th, and RTD.

Chris & Nic White continued to show their experience gaining a 4th, 2nd, 3rd while Stuart & Nick Hydon achieved 3rd, 3rd, 4th to complete the overall standings for this years top spots.

On to prize-giving, special mention was given to the six Weymouth Youth boats that were competing in extremely challenging conditions, many for their first time. A huge well done from the lark class and we hope to see you continuing your lark journey with us!

Adding to his trophy cabinet, Tom Gillard & James Hobson from Sheffield Viking SC took first place, being crowned Musto Lark National Champions 2025.

Ed Bradburn & Holly Evans claimed second overall after a perfect performance on the final day. Chris & Nic White took third and also won this year's first married couple award.

Samuel Bailey & Kamila Czartolomna won the under 25s trophy coming 11th overall.

Maryn Wilkes and Alex Orr Prosper won the under 21s trophy in 18th overall.

And South Staffordshire SC took this years award for best overall club performance.

Special thank you to the Lark Committee, Weymouth Sailing Club, the race team and all volunteers who made this event happen.

Looking forward, the class has many more events for this season where we expect to see strong turnouts and visitors out racing in the class.

The Lark National Championships 2025 is already booked at South Caernarvonshire Yacht Club (Abersoch) from 27th to 30th July 2025, so if you fancy joining in the fun, with incredibly close racing, awesome socials and the friendliest fleet in the UK, let us know and we'll find you a boat to borrow or buy!
