The OK class are ramping up for a very busy summer, with their Scottish Championship being held at East Lothian YC this weekend, sponsored by Allen, and the National Championship being hosted by Brixham YC from 18 to 21 July, sponsored by Pro-Set, along with a plethora of other one and two day events.
The class has invested in two high spec demo boats, and are keen to see them in use at events - there's a particular focus on encouraging youth and female sailors to come into the class and it's great to see how the demo boats are giving people the chance to 'try before they buy'. There's been an real upsurge in interest in the fleet 'in the north' and as a result we've seen record numbers taking part in our Border Trophy - awarded on the basis of combined scores from the events at Ullswater YC and ELYC.
The second hand boat market is proving to be brisk with boats snapped up quickly across the price range. With the introduction of a 'tin rig' classification and a championship event particularly for these older boats it's possible to pick up an older boat with the metal rig and still enjoy some really competitive racing.
If you are interested in finding out more head over to the class website at www.okdinghy.co.uk.
The discounted entry fee for the Pro-Set National Championships runs to 30 June - with entries due to close on 14 July.
