A successful season for the International Star Class in 2024 continues this week with the Star European Championship in Attersee, Austria, following a successful Western Hemisphere Championship.
Sixty teams will be on the starting line tomorrow for the first two races of the event. The level of competition is high, with several past Continental champions in the fleet, promising a week of thrilling races. Among the participants, there are nine teams with sailors under the age of 30, showcasing the emerging talents in the sailing world.The picturesque setting of Attersee, in the Austrian Alps combined with challenging wind conditions, will provide an exciting backdrop for the championship.
The event will feature eight races over five days, with two races scheduled per day until the reserve day on June 9th. Highlighting the fleet are the past Continental champions who bring a wealth of experience and skill to the competition. Their presence will undoubtedly elevate the level of racing and provide a benchmark for the younger competitors.The event is hosted by Union Yacht Club Attersee, which has a long-standing tradition in Star Sailing and a great under 30 project called Future Stars Austria.
The warm hospitality of the local community, combined with the club’s excellent facilities, promises an unforgettable experience for all participants, that has already been tested by some sailors at the 17th District Championship that has just finished last weekend, and it served as a pre Europeans.
Racing starts tomorrow, June 5th, two races per day are scheduled until Saturday, June 8th, when the winners of the 2024 Star European Championship will be crowned. This championship not only provides a platform for elite sailors to showcase their skills but also aims to inspire the next generation of sailors.
