The 7th annual San Diego Olympic Classes Regatta (OCR) rolled out on a perfect June weekend. The classic San Diego "June Gloom" burned off quickly and a nice westerly filled in for the majority of both days.

With winds ranging from 7-14 kts, and modest little swells running down the course, 28 sailors in three classes completed seven races on a trapezoid course located just south of Point Loma on the Coronado Roads.

Gage Christopher and Colin Kennedy of BYC owned the 420 fleet with a long string of 1st places and a discard of 3rd to secure their title.

The 29er fleet was won by Kevin Cason and Holland Vierling with a 2 point margin over 2nd place and a discard of a 3rd in the final race.

The ILCA 6 fleet has an inspiring. Ryan Downey dominated this fleet, winning all races and discarding his only other score, a 2nd place. Initially, he entered the ILCA 7, while Augie Wise and Jack McGhie entered the ILCA 4.7. Since neither category had enough participants to qualify as a fleet, they called an audible and swapped sails, allowing all three to compete in the ILCA 6 rigs. Despite being overpowered in most races, even with winds at a modest 10-12 knots, Wise and McGhie were honored by the OA for "raising their game" and their sportsmanship in helping to form a competitive class.

Race Official Becky Ashburn and Protest Chair Karen Butler, along with another 15 club members working the markset boats and protest committee, helped set the course and process any differences of opinion. The competitors will be headed to the next OCR event held in Long Beach on July 12 and 13.
