RS Sailing have generously donated a spinnaker for four RS 'noughty' classes National Championships:

  • Noble Marine Marlow RS200 National Championship, Mounts Bay SC, 4-8 Aug
  • Noble Marine RS400 National Championship, Royal Torbay YC, 4-9 Aug
  • Noble Marine RS700 National Championship, Hayling Island SC, 12-15 Sep
  • Noble Marine RS800 National Championship, Hayling Island SC, 12-15 Sep

The spinnakers are being raffled to raise money for the RS Class Association's charity partner, the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust.

Raffle tickets can be bought at the event, and for the first time this year in advance online, to enable those who will not be at the events to take part. Sailors who won't be at the Nationals should ask a friend who will be there to collect the prize and be in a prize winner's photo, should they be lucky enough to win!

The charity support young people aged 8-24 in their recovery from cancer by inviting them to take part sailing or outdoor adventures, to inspire them to believe in a brighter future living through and beyond cancer.

Young people say that what happens after cancer treatment can be as difficult as, if not even more so, than the treatment itself. Young people remain vulnerable after treatment as it comes at a time of rapid physical, emotional and social development.

Cancer in young people often leads to lower educational achievement, relationship and friendship difficulties, body image issues, and/or ongoing late effects, such as extreme fatigue, infertility, osteoporosis, thyroid problems and hearing or vision loss.

Through the Ellen Macarthur Cancer trust's free sailing and outdoor adventures, young people laugh, gain a new sense of purpose and self-worth, rediscover independence, and feel optimism for the future. They realise what they are capable of and stop feeling like 'the only one'. They start to re-establish their purpose and place in the world and believe in a brighter future.
