Glen Haven, N.S., to host Sail Canada 2024 Sail East Championships this weekend

Over 170 sailors will be in action this weekend, July 19-21, at the St. Margaret Sailing Club in Nova Scotia, as they will take part in Sail Canada 2024 Sail East Championships.

The competition will be held during the "Bay Wind Regatta" and the 2024 ILCA Canadian Championships. Sailors will primarily come from New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia and will compete in the 29er, Club 420, ILCA 4, ILCA 6, ILCA 7 and Optimist classes.

Training clinic to start the weekend

Sail Canada Sail East Championships will start with a training clinic on Friday, July 19, from 9:30am to 4pm.

This day will be led by Sail Nova Scotia coach Stephen Waldie.

Races for Sail East will be held according to the following schedule:

  • Friday, July 19: races are scheduled to start at 11am (ILCAs only)
  • Saturday, July 20: races are scheduled to start at 11am (all fleets)
  • Sunday, July 21: races are scheduled to start at 11am (all fleets)

Sail Canada Sail East event is part of a series of seven Sail Canada National and Regional Championships to be held this summer. These competitions provide an opportunity for sailors to train and compete with high-level sailors in their region, in addition to serving as talent identification opportunities for regional and provincial sailing teams, as development and mentoring opportunities for coaches, as well as training and development opportunities for officials and volunteers.
