The Safe Harbor Newport Regatta took place last weekend for three days of racing with both windward-leeward and "navigator" around government marks courses. The regatta was hosted by the Newport Shipyard, one of the many Safe Harbor marinas on the New England coastline. The event is popular with J/Boats owners since it offers options for racing inside Narragansett Bay.

PHRF 1 W-L Division

In this fleet of eleven boats, Joe Brito's J/121 INCOGNITO didn't win a race all weekend, but with finishes of 3-2-3-2, it was consistent enough to get the job done. On stage, after accepting his first-place class prize, Brito instigated a standing ovation for the Race Committee. "They knew when to send us off and when to get us back," said Brito, alluding to an abandonment of Race 2 in his Division on Saturday due to a dying breeze (the race was re-sailed later that afternoon) and the rally on Sunday to squeeze in two races to make up for lost time.

Rounding the sweep of the podium was Robin Team's J/122 TEAMWORK in second and Mark Verville's J/120 ISURUS in third. Fourth place went to Tom Sutton's J/122 LEADING EDGE.

PHRF 2 W-L Division

Four J/Crews occupied the top five places in this nine-boat division. Second went to Ned Joyce & Andy Reservitz's J/105 DARK'N'STORMY, third place was Kevin Dakan's J/110 MEMORY, fourth was Tyler Nash's J/109 MISTRAL, and fifth went to Chris Tate's J/105 BLITZ.

PHRF NAV 2 Division

A consistent scoreline (1-2-2-3) contributed to a handy win for James Phyfe's J/44 DIGGER in Division 2's six-boat PHRF Performance Cruising 2.
