11th Hour Racing is thrilled to announce the world premiere of its latest film, "Between Waves," featuring renowned Italian sailor Francesca Clapcich.
The film will debut at the ONA Short Film Festival in Venice, Italy, on September 7, marking an exciting new chapter in 11th Hour Racing's commitment to storytelling and social environmentalism in the world of competitive sailing and outdoor sports.
Francesca Clapcich, a two-time Olympian, winner of The Ocean Race, and America's Cup competitor, has become a symbol of resilience, inclusivity, and environmental stewardship in the sailing community.
This film, produced by 11th Hour Racing, offers an intimate look at Clapcich's journey, exploring both her personal and professional challenges as she navigates the demanding world of elite sailing. "We are honored to support Francesca and share her incredible story with the world," said Alessandra Ghezzi, vice president of communications and marketing at 11th Hour Racing. "Francesca finds freedom in the ocean and the mountains, and this freedom empowers her to assert her unique voice and perspective, advocating for inclusivity and social environmentalism. This film demonstrates what can be achieved with determination, teamwork, and an unwavering spirit."
11th Hour Racing will also host a public "Sunset Talk" at the ONA Short Film Festival on September 7, offering an open discussion on the power of storytelling to drive positive change. The event will include insights from 11th Hour Racing's creative team, the perspective of Francesca Clapcich as both an elite sailor and a Protect Our Winters ambassador, and advocacy insights from Giorgia Garancini of Protect Our Winters Italia. This unique conversation will explore the intersection of sports, storytelling, and environmental activism, spanning from the ocean to the mountains.
"I'm very excited, it's the very first time in my entire life that I participate in a film festival where there is a movie about me and my story, and about the incredible collaboration with 11th Hour Racing. I live in Park City, home of the Sundance Film Festival, and I've been to the Festival del Cinema di Venezia a few times, but still, it feels so far away from what I'm used to in the sports industry," said Francesca Clapcich.
"I'm really glad that outdoor life, advocacy, and sports are becoming more and more global and people are keen to fill up rooms and watch movies and get curious about new and different topics. Even if the movies are asking the hard questions, they can spark curiosity and that's the magic of storytelling. I'm really honored, and for me, it's a great pleasure to be back in Italy, in Venice with 11th Hour Racing, to attend the world premiere of Between Waves. I have put my time, my story, my past, and my future into this movie.
I'm really proud that the film has made it to the ONA Short Film Festival and I'm looking forward to being in Venice and sharing a very strong conversation with the audience about what belonging and justice mean in the sports industry and my own sailing," concluded the Italian/American sailor.
ONA Short Film Festival shares life-changing stories of outdoor sports, nature, and environmental awareness, highlighting the intersection of sports and sustainability. "Between Waves" will be featured alongside a selection of other compelling short films, including another 11th Hour Racing production, "Rhythm of Water," delving into the symbiotic relationship between athletes who constantly push their limits and the natural environment that surrounds them.
The short film "Between Waves," directed by Luke Kaneb of After Pangea Pictures, will be available on 11th Hour Racing and Francesca Clapcich's YouTube channels on September 9.
