After dominating the fleet elimination series, the Italian crew featuring Marco Gradoni, Gianluigi Ugolini, Federico Colaninno and Rocco Falcone also took the win in the Final match race after leading through the entire racecourse in very challenging conditions. Thus, the Italian challenger's under-25 team has proved to be the best in this America's Cup circuit dedicated to young talents.

Today's conditions proved very complex for the AC40s as they raced in almost one-meter waves and south-east winds ranging 16-20 knots. The racecourse, additionally, was a six leg trial, as opposed to the four of the previous fleet, and positioned very close to the shore, allowing spectators to enjoy this important Final.

"We're absolutely thrilled," said Marco Gradoni after crossing the finish line as he was warmly congratulated by the rest of the Youth crew and Skipper and Team Director Max Sirena, who joined them on the support boat to congratulate them immediately. "We worked hard to get here and we also prepared for the match race. I want to thank the crew, who did an extraordinary job, and the entire Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team, including the women's team, who helped us achieve this result. Thanks to the Committee, the Umpires, and everyone."

Gianluigi "Gigi" Ugolini was unable to hide his excitement: "It's hard to describe how I feel right now. It was a very tough race, and we were careful not to take penalties because we know how costly they can be, especially at the start. We were very focused on handling the boat and avoiding mistakes. We're incredibly happy to be here."

Patrizio Bertelli, President of Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, declared: "A perfect race and perfect execution. Well done, boys, congratulations to you all. Your victory shows that the New Generation program we launched at the start of the last America's Cup campaign has paid off. I'm very proud. Now let's move forward".

Final Match Race: USA vs ITA

With south-east winds ranging 16-20 knots and rough sea state, the final match put the AC40 crews to the test. Taking advantage of a penalty given to the Americans before the start, Luna Rossa crossed the line and extended her lead, gaining 22 seconds at the first mark, a lead that stretched during each leg of the race.

Helmsmen Marco Gradoni and Gianluigi Ugolini took no unnecessary risks and sailed a flawless regatta, defending their lead with clean and fast manoeuvrers, always keeping control of their opponent. The Italian crew made no mistakes and left no room for a comeback from the USA team, securing this crucial victory.

Winner: Luna Rossa
