Andoo Team Australia's Women's squad hit the water in Barcelona for Puig Women's America's Cup first practice day today.
Andoo Australia's women's team, led by skipper Olivia Price with co-helm Laura Harding and trimmers Lisa Darmanin and Annie Wilmot impressed the commentary team when they took their America's Cup AC40 yacht for a first flight off Barcelona today on the first official practice day.
On a sparkling Spanish day the light breeze played havoc with the AC75 Louis Vuitton finals racing not getting a full race finished, but the six invited nation teams for the Puig Women's competition, which includes Australia, were able to get the AC40 yachts out on the water and foiling.
The on water crew were supported by their squad of Nina Curtis, Sarah Hoffman and Zoe Thomson to get familiar with the dock on and off procedures at Port Olimpic and then catch some breeze to lift onto the foils for a solid practice.
They were also supported by yacht partner team Emirates Team New Zealand to run through the safety and technical aspects of the boat.
The Australian team will have three more practice days this week if the weather allows, before official racing starts next Saturday and Australia's first race which will be on Sunday, 6 October.
Fans and families have also been arriving in Barcelona to support the campaign with a Cocktail Party scheduled on Wednesday evening at the main Barcelona Real Nautico Yacht Club.
Racing is being broadcast on Fox Sports and Kayo Freebies in Australia and the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA) will be hosting some watch parties you can check on their website.
