Racing has been cancelled for Monday in the Puig Womens America's Cup due to an adverse weather forecast of light winds.
The AC40s Youth and Womens America's Cup have a higher minimum wind limit than the AC75s, and obviously Race Management were not confident of being able to reach the 7.5kt minimum wind threshold.
In the first two races held yesterday, Sunday, when winds lightened after the start only two teams finished the first race, and three the second race - leaving the remaining teams to pick up points based on a process of other than the position in which they they crossed the finish line.
There will be a double session tomorrow Tuesday, October 8 for the Puig Women’s America’s Cup:
- 11:00hrs CET start - Group B Qualifying
- 14:00hrs CET - Group A Qualifying
Yesterday morning an advisory from race management indicated that there would be no racing on Wednesday due to a forecast of strong winds. With today's changed schedule, and looking at the forecasts for the rest of the week, there is not a lot of difference in windstrength between Tuesday and Wednesday, however the forecast models from Predictwind are showing the breeze increasing well above the maximum limit on Wednesday afternoon and through the night before easing somewhat on Thursday.
There is not a lot of agreement between the wind models, at this stage, for the weekend when the America's Cup gets underway. However this situation should be resolved as the week unfolds.
We'll advise as soon as we know more.
