2024 British Land Yacht Championships round 1 at St Anne's Landyacht Club

by Peter Couri 8 Oct 13:07 BST 28-29 September 2024

St Anne's Land Yacht Club held the first round of the 2024/25 British Championships over the weekend of 28th - 29th September. The event was held at North Beach St Anne's, just opposite the Coast Guard Station FY8 2TR.

16 pilots travelled from all over the country to compete in the mini yacht event. The pilots' ages ranged from 17 to 80 and we were also able to celebrate the 80 year old Ian Dibdin's birthday with cake and dancing at the Beachcomber Café.

There were nine races over the two day event; the sailing master was able to set out some challenging courses around soft sand and water splashes. The wind was favourable which created very close racing throughout the field.

Ed Ingis (St Anne's) and Dave Green (York) fought it out for the top step of the podium, going into the last race on equal points, Ed just pipping Dave to take the honours.

Special thanks must go to all the people who made the event a great success, the beach master and crew, the scorers, marshals and the 4x4 team without whom the event could not happen.

The next National Regatta will be held at Brean in Somerset on 25th - 26th October, where not only Mini Yachts will be competing but also the larger Standarts and Class 3 will compete for the British Championship.
