Cannes - Malta Race announced for October 2025

by Jean François Cutugno 31 Oct 07:55 GMT October 2025

As part of a reciprocal agreement signed between the Royal Malta Yacht Club and the Cannes Yacht Club earlier this year, an exciting new race is set to be added to both Clubs' event calendars.

The annoucement was made during the prize-giving ceremony of the 45th Rolex Middle Sea Race, the Cannes to Malta Race is set to take place in October 2025.

This inaugural race aims to strengthen the bond between the Royal Malta Yacht Club and the Cannes Yacht Club while encouraging greater participation from French crews in the Rolex Middle Sea Race. The race will be conducted under IRC Rules, with the Notice of Race scheduled for release in March 2025.

Jean François Cutugno, President of the Cannes Yacht Club, and David Cremona, Commodore of the Royal Malta Yacht Club, shared their enthusiasm for this collaborative endeavour, stating that " The Cannes - Malta Race will serve as a vital link between these two historical Mediterranean sailing destinations, offering crews the opportunity to journey directly from Cannes to the start line of the Rolex Middle Sea Race."

This initiative reflects both Clubs' commitment to strengthening international relationships within the sailing community and expanding the diversity of participants in Malta's prestigious offshore race - the Rolex Middle Sea Race.
