ARC+ 2024 - Exploring & celebrating in Grenada

by World Cruising Club 11 Dec 23:46 GMT

All boats who took the ARC+ start from Mindelo, Cape Verde Islands are now safely docked in Camper & Nicholson Port Louis Marina. Crews are making the most of their time here and enjoying exploring the wonderful sights that Grenada has to offer. It's not called 'Pure Grenada' for nothing.

The Spice Island of the Caribbean is one of the most beautiful unspoiled islands, filled with lush rain forests, rivers, beaches, waterfalls, friendly people and much more. From rum tasting at the distilleries, to learning all about the amazing spices that are found here, to seeing (and tasting) how cocoa beans are processed into delightful Grenadian chocolate. Chasing waterfalls and visiting the historic buildings around St George's, Grenada's picturesque capital city, is also high on the list.

For those wanting to stretch their legs after being at sea for several days, Grenada is a great place for hiking, with many trails to choose from, including rainforest, waterfall, and mountain hikes. The sheltered beaches are ideal for swimming, snorkelling, reef and wreck diving. The turquoise waters around Grenada offer great diving and several crews have enjoyed exploring the unique gallery of sculptures in the Underwater Sculpture Park in the Molinere Beauséjour Marine Protected Area.

Celebrating on shore

All week the shoreside programme of events has been in full swing, making sure everyone has time to enjoy the relaxed vibe and atmosphere that prevails, now that the months of preparation and planning for their Atlantic adventure have come to fruition. From a sunset cruise, to welcome cocktails by the Marine & Yachting Trade assoc. of Grenada, to a fun day for the children, a VIBE Caribbean hard seltzers cocktail event, and two informative talks on sailing in the Grenadines by James Pascal of Horizon Yacht Services, and another by Chris Rundlett of LTD Sailing.
