AI for boaters: SEA.AI unveils cutting-edge safety solutions at Boot Düsseldorf

by SEA.AI 10 Jan 11:25 GMT 18-26 January 2025

SEA.AI's latest addition to its lineup of lifesaving machine vision systems will make its debut to the boating public at the upcoming Boot Düsseldorf boat show on January 18, 2025.

Recently nominated for the prestigious DAME Award, the SEA.AI Brain is a groundbreaking safety solution which brings the power of SEA.AI to vessels with existing thermal cameras.

Collisions cause more than half of all boating accidents that result in injury or fatality. SEA.AI's comprehensive approach to safety reduces the risk of boating accidents with the power of AI and machine vision. The suite of advanced systems identifies and alerts operators to collision hazards, filling the gaps left by traditional systems like radar or AIS. The SEA.AI Brain works by analyzing the camera feed in real time, identifying potential threats, and alerting the operator, all within a fraction of a second.

"If you can't see it, you can't avoid it. So, we're excited to show boaters how the SEA.AI Brain can easily transform their existing camera setups into highly intelligent, automated collision detection tools", said Marcus Warrelmann, CEO of SEA.AI.

The SEA.AI Brain's machine vision algorithm and AI has been in training since 2018, undergoing rigorous testing and refinement to ensure its accuracy and reliability. It is constantly scanning its database of over 10 million objects in real time, ensuring boaters are always one step ahead.

"Small watercraft without AIS, floating debris, large marine life, containers, and unlit buoys all pose significant navigational hazards which traditional collision avoidance systems can't identify," Warrelmann continued. "SEA.AI can identify and alert boaters to collision hazards at long distances and in any ambient light conditions or sea state. It can even track people in the water, adding another level of security in crew overboard situations. The Brain is one of the ways we are making advanced safety technology more accessible and affordable for everyone who spends time on the water."

Visitors to Boot Düsseldorf will also get a sneak peek at the upcoming Watchkeeper series of modular safety systems from SEA.AI. Starting at under €5,000, the Watchkeeper platform allows boaters to customize their SEA.AI system based on their personal boating preferences.

"Watchkeeper will deliver the security of automated collision detection to more boaters, keeping all of us safer at sea," said Warrelmann. "The system comes with a state-of-the-art 4k low-light camera with an extra-wide field of view of 135 degrees, providing a clear and comprehensive view of the surroundings. With GPS and Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs) built-in, boaters can get precise navigation assistance. All these features are powered by the latest SEA.AI software, ensuring top-notch performance. Watchkeeper is small, lightweight, and a perfect entry-level system for the day-into-evening boater who wants an extra set of eyes on the water."

Watchkeeper systems with integrated long-wave infrared thermal cameras will also be available for boaters who require full night-vision capabilities. Watchkeeper systems are expected to hit the market in summer 2025 and will be available through SEA.AI's global dealer network.

SEA.AI’s full portfolio of safety systems will be on display at stand 10D06 at Boot Düsseldorf 2025. To schedule an interview with one of our product experts or experience SEA.AI for yourself, please contact us at communication@sea.ai or schedule a meeting.
