The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) has partnered with Insured Health and Bupa, coming on board as its Official Health Insurance partner.

As part of this collaboration, RYA members will have access to discounted health insurance, enabling them to take control of their health and wellbeing. This includes everyday support with access to a digital GP service and a range of cover options that offer peace of mind for life's unexpected moments.

The newest benefit offered by the RYA; the partnership will provide members a 10% discount on 'Bupa By You' products for the duration of members' insurance policies. RYA members will also receive Bupa offers such as free cover for younger children and a dental allowance for an appointment and treatment.*

Understanding the vital role of health and wellbeing in staying active, this new RYA partnership is part of its ongoing partner scheme to offer its members the best benefits available whether on or off the water.

Health insurance, also known as private medical insurance, is an insurance policy that helps cover the costs of private healthcare from diagnosis to treatment depending on the level of cover taken out. People with Bupa health insurance can benefit from:

  • Fast access to treatment
  • Treatment in private hospitals
  • Outpatient care such as scans, tests, x-rays and therapies
  • Private consultations
  • Mental health support
  • Access to breakthrough cancer drugs
  • Speak to a GP over phone or video call with Blua, digital health by Bupa.

Ensuring the highest quality of partners at the RYA, Insured Health is fully regulated by the FCA (Financial Conduct Authority). This means they are allowed to offer tailored advice to clients, helping guide them through the often-complicated world of medical insurance. While many insurers simply provide information, leaving customers to figure out the details on their own, Insured Health will guide RYA members to discuss the right Bupa option for them.

Oliver O'Hara, Director at Insured Health states "We're excited to work with members of the Royal Yachting Association to help them navigate the world of private medical insurance. At Insured Health, we provide personalized advice and exclusive discounts, ensuring RYA members have access to the best healthcare options. Whether on land or at sea, we're committed to protecting your health and well-being with coverage that fits your unique lifestyle."

Sara Sutcliffe, RYA CEO comments "We're delighted to welcome Bupa and Insured Health to our commercial partner programme. At the RYA we're aways looking to support our members both on and off the water. Health and wellbeing is key, and as the RYA Official Health Insurance partner, Bupa's offer supports members to really make the most of their time on the water".

Five tips to stay healthy and prepare for the sailing season in the new year

The start of a new year is the perfect time to refocus on your health and prepare for the upcoming sailing season. Staying in peak physical and mental condition will ensure you're ready to tackle the challenges on the water. Here are five expert tips from Insured Health & Bupa to kickstart 2024 and support your sailing journey:

1. Build strength and flexibility for the season ahead

Winter is the off-season for many sailors, making it the ideal time to focus on fitness tailored to your sport. Strength training and flexibility exercises such as yoga or Pilates can improve core stability and reduce the risk of injury when you're back on the water.

2. Stay mentally focused and motivated

Sailing requires sharp focus and quick decision-making. During the darker winter months, it's easy to feel less motivated. Set goals for the upcoming season, whether mastering a new sailing skill or participating in a regatta. Stay connected with your sailing community through local clubs or online forums.

3. Fuel your body with performance-boosting nutrition

A sailor's diet plays a vital role in stamina and overall performance. January is the perfect time to reset your eating habits with a focus on whole, nutrient-rich foods. Incorporate plenty of lean proteins, whole grains, and omega-3 fatty acids to support muscle recovery and brain health.

4. Plan preventative health checks

Start the year off by scheduling routine health screenings to address any lingering issues before the sailing season begins. Regular check-ups and diagnostic tests can catch potential problems early, keeping you in optimal health for your time on the water.

5. Use the off-season to sharpen your skills

While January might not be ideal for outdoor sailing, it's an excellent time to improve your sailing knowledge and strategy. Participate in online training sessions, read up on advanced techniques, or plan your 2024 sailing adventures. Engaging with the sailing community can boost your confidence and keep your passion for the sport alive.
