80th Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race entries to open soon

by RSHYR media 14 Feb 06:18 GMT 26 December 2025

The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA) is thrilled to announce that entries for the milestone 80th edition of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race will open in the coming weeks.

Since its inception in 1945, the Rolex Sydney Hobart has grown into one of the world's most prestigious and challenging offshore yacht races. The 628-nautical-mile journey from Sydney to Hobart is a true test of skill and seamanship, drawing top sailors from around the globe.

As we celebrate this historic 80th race, the CYCA and its race partners look forward to welcoming a strong international and interstate fleet to Sydney for what promises to be a spectacular edition of the Hobart.

With a packed global yachting calendar in 2025 - including the RORC Caribbean 600, Transpacific Yacht Race and the Rolex Fastnet Race and Middle Sea Race - opening entries early will allow international competitors to plan their logistics and ensure their yachts are in Sydney in time for the Boxing Day start.

Looking beyond the 80th Sydney Hobart

Beyond the thrill of the Rolex Sydney Hobart, competitors will have the opportunity to extend their offshore campaigns in Australia by taking part in the inaugural Trans-Tasman Yacht Race, starting in Sydney and finishing in Auckland, New Zealand.

Organised by the CYCA in cooperation with the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, this 1,270-nautical-mile race across the Tasman Sea will be a new challenge, offering sailors the chance to make history as the first winners of this international race.
