Contender World Championships 2024 at Pensacola Yacht Club - Day 3

by Ed Presley 22 Feb 18:21 GMT

With a sparkling day one in the bag the forecast promised more of everything. As the first boats launched into screaming breeze the RO put his sensible hat on and sent all ashore, from here nothing else happened on day 2.

Day 3 forecast light breeze and bright sunshine, at the start area very little pressure led the RO to tour the bay in search of consistency. He found it near to the impressive bridge. 3 races: go.

Overnight leader Simon Mussell punched out of the pin with Soren Dulong Andreasen, Soren commanded the left and the race leading until the end. Rene Heynen improved all through the race to take second with Egidio Babbi sail smartly to hold onto third in shifting conditions.

Race 2 saw Soren repeat his tactic, but with Graeme Wilcox closing the gap at the end of the race, once again Rene showed his liking for condition other were struggling with, not strong, not light and not from over there.

In the last race the swinging wind favoured Graeme's form and he led at last, Soren's charge was halted by a jury call, and allowed the smooth sailing of Ethan Bixby take second from Luca Bonezzi.

Graeme Wilcox leads from Soren, Simon Mussell retain a his place in the podium after a good day.

Forecast for tomorrow is light but hopes are high.
