The WLYC 24 Hour Race has won the prestigious 'Event of the Year' Award at the RYA Dinghy & Watersports Show, a fantastic recognition of the collaboration between competing clubs, and the dedication and passion of the volunteers that went into making the event a success.
Despite being the first year back after the pandemic and with short notice, the 2024 race attracted 50 entries with over 600 competitors, a strong turnout to build on for 2025.
A Historic Event with a Bright Future
Looking ahead, we are targeting an increased participation of up to 75 entries for the 2025 race, ensuring even greater competition and excitement. The event has long been a staple in the dinghy sailing calendar, drawing teams from across the UK to Southport Marine Lake for an endurance test like no other. With this award adding to its prestige, we hope to encourage even more sailors to take part in the years to come.
We encourage all sailing clubs, university teams, and keen racers to sign up for the 2025 edition, which is open to Fireflys as well GP14s and Enterprises. With increased participation and professional media coverage, this year's race promises to be bigger and better than ever.
