The International Melges 24 Class Association (IM24CA), in partnership with the Yacht Club Adriaco and the Italian Melges 24 Class Association, is excited to announce that the entry process for the 2025 Melges 24 World Championship, which will take place September 20-27 in Trieste, Italy, is now open.

Event and entry information is available on the event website and at the Official Notice Board

For the first time in history, the Melges 24 World Championship will take place in the Adriatic Sea, marking a significant milestone for the class. In September 2025, the world's best Melges 24 teams will converge in Trieste, Italy, a city renowned for its deep-rooted maritime heritage, world-class sailing conditions, and passionate sailing community.

Trieste: A sailing capital with a rich heritage

Nestled on Italy's northeastern coast, Trieste has long been a centre of sailing excellence. The city is home to the legendary Barcolana regatta, one of the world's largest and most prestigious sailing events, attracting thousands of boats and sailors yearly. Beyond Barcolana, Trieste has built a strong reputation as a competitive sailing hub, regularly hosting high-level regattas and fostering a vibrant racing scene.

With a coastline shaped by history and winds that challenge sailors of all levels, Trieste has become a gathering point for Melges 24 teams, who frequent the city for local and regional events. Clubs such as Società Triestina Sport del Mare and Yacht Club Adriaco have been instrumental in organizing top-tier competitions, with many of their members actively competing in the Melges 24 class.

Nicolò de Manzini, President of the Yacht Club Adriaco: "With the opening of registrations, the Melges 24 World Championship officially begins its approach to Trieste. The city of Trieste and the Adriaco Yacht Club are ready to host this long-awaited World Championship and welcome all the sailors on the race course of both the Pre-World Championship and the World Championship. September 2025 is not too far, and we can't wait to host the Melges 24 teams worldwide."

A strong and growing Melges 24 fleet in the Adriatic

The Adriatic Sea has a thriving Melges 24 fleet, with over 45 active boats across Italy, Slovenia, and Croatia. The Trieste area alone boasts over 20 active teams, while Slovenia and Croatia contribute more than 30 boats to the regional fleet.

This strong presence highlights the Adriatic's significance as a hotspot for Melges 24 racing, making Trieste a natural choice for the 2025 World Championship. With a fleet that continues to grow and local teams that have proven their competitiveness on the international stage, the championship features both elite professional campaigns and strong Corinthian challengers.

Marcello Caldonazzo Arvedi, President of the Italian Melges 24 Class Association: "We are happy to announce that the registration is now open for the 2025 World Championships in Trieste! It is great for our Class to host this event in this beautiful city with such a deep-rooted sailing tradition. We will see you all there!"

Laura Grondin, IM24CA Chair: "We are thrilled to have Trieste as the 2025 Melges 24 World Championship host city. We look forward to welcoming sailors from around the globe to Italy for what promises to be an unforgettable event. Trieste's prime location at the head of the Adriatic makes it easily accessible for teams travelling from across Europe and beyond, ensuring a competitive and diverse international fleet."

Leading up to the Worlds

Before the battle for the 2025 Melges 24 World Championship begins, teams will have the chance to test the waters of Trieste at the official Pre-Worlds regatta, hosted by Yacht Club Adriaco on September 5-7, 2025. This three-day warm-up event will provide sailors with valuable racing experience in local conditions, including the famous Bora wind and the tactical challenges of the Adriatic Sea.

Moreover, the Melges 24 European Sailing Series regatta in neighbouring Marina Monfalcone on July 4-6 will be the lead-up regatta to start the Worlds' campaign on the road to Trieste, especially when affordable storage options are available.
