Eight Performance Academy Sailors competed in Vilamoura last week, for the second installment of the Vilamoura Grand Prix.
The mixed fleet saw a total of 111 ILCA 6 sailors racing, where tricky wind conditions caused difficulties for race management to put on a full series of races.
A total of five races were sailed, with Performance Academy sailor, Freddie Sunderland finishing 16th overall, and Jess Powell finishing 4th in the u17 category.
Performance Academy Head Coach, Charlie Linsell reflected on the event: "We had a really good week out there, with a lot of learning from the sailors in what were some really difficult conditions.
"It was a great opportunity to see what our sailors need to work on ahead of the Europeans that are back in Vilamoura in April.
"I always really enjoy coaching that group, and a huge well done from me to all of our sailors."
Charlie was awarded Best Coach for the combined Vilamoura Grand Prix 1 & 2; this was among over 80 of the best coaches in the world. The award was based on which coach's sailors across the two Grand Prix's performed the best amongst all the racing classes.
We share a huge congratulations from all of us at the Performance Academy to Charlie on a fantastic achievement!
Our ILCA 6 sailors now return home as they prepare for qualifying ahead of the ILCA 6 Europeans that are being hosted back at Vilamoura in April.
