A damaged mast can’t stop him - Aussie Solo Sailor Dan Turner Overcomes Significant Boat Damage Against The Odds and Maintains 4th Place in Mini Globe Race.

Aussie Dan Turner pushes past mast damage to sail 5.8m boat around the world.

March 5, 2025 – Dan Turner, currently competing in the Mini Globe Race, is facing a major obstacle in his journey around the world. While racing through the first leg of the event from Antigua to the beginning of the Panama canal, Turner experienced serious damage to his boat, including a broken forestay and spreader. These issues put him at risk of being demasted, a critical challenge in this grueling race.

Dan Turner, channeling his inner MacGyver, worked tirelessly through the night, using sheer ingenuity and determination to secure his mast against all odds, ensuring it stood strong despite the wind raging on.

Despite the significant damage, Turner remains focused and determined. He has managed to maintain his position in 4th place, a kudos to his sailing expertise and ability to adapt to difficult circumstances, and true show of the Aussie battler spirit. As the race continues, Turner is working to assess and manage the damage to his vessel while staying competitive in the race, still powering downwind with the end of the leg in sight.

The Mini Globe Race is renowned for testing the limits of both sailors and their boats, and Turner’s ability to keep pushing forward despite adversity highlights his strength and skill as a sailor. His supporters and the global sailing community are closely following his progress, hoping for a safe resolution to the damage and continued success in the race.

Updates on Dan’s situation will continue to be shared as he navigates these challenges and pushes forward in the Mini Globe Race.
