The inaugural J/70 Corinthian European Championship has been a roller coaster of conditions at Clube Naval de Cascais Portugal.
After three races on day one with solid breeze and significate swell and chop, the 54 teams were kept ashore on day two due to massive waves and wind. On Saturday, Mother Nature turned the tables with moderate conditions starting around 7-8 knots and stabilizing at 9-12 with sunny skies.
Javier Padron's HSN SAILING TEAM of Spain posted a pair of deuces and a 14 (their discard) for 22 net points to move into the pole position. Renato Cunha Faria's TÔ NESSA of Brazil suffered a 41 in the day's first contest but recovered for scores of 2,11 for 30 net points in second place. Món Canellas Salas's HANG TEN of Spain tallied solid scores for third place at 40 net points.
Saturday's race winners: Salas's HANG TEN, Victor Mesterton's LIQUID SUN and Miguel Oliveira's ANOTHER AFFAIR.
Racing concludes Sunday. Seventeen nations are competing: AUS, BRA, CHN, ESP, EST, FIN, FRA, GBR, GER, HUN, ITA, MEX, NED, POR, SWE, TUR, USA. Photos may be found on the International J/70 Facebook and Instagram pages.
