Team Reposado/Tsunami 2 Claims Victory, Strathclyde University Wins Student Boat Award

The 2025 NCS Edinburgh Cup, held on the 5th and 6th of April, featured fierce competition with 25 entries and 24 boats on the water. Team Reposado/Tsunami 2 emerged victorious, showcasing consistent skill across all races.

Saturday's weather conditions proved challenging, with tricky winds that tested sailors' ability to adapt. Competitors had to demonstrate competence on the water, managing the conditions and making quick, strategic decisions to stay in the race. Despite the tough weather, the fleet handled the challenges well, providing exciting racing throughout the weekend. Sunday's lighter winds brought a different set of challenges, requiring sailors to adjust tactics and stay focused despite the calmer conditions.

Across the 7 races, there were 4 different race winners, which made for an unpredictable and thrilling competition. Consistency proved key, with the overall winners maintaining steady performances despite fluctuations in results.

The fleet on the water was highly competitive, with each team battling for position and pushing their limits. Off the water, the atmosphere was equally welcoming and enjoyable, with sailors bonding over their shared passion for the sport and exchanging stories.

Saturday Results:

  • Race 1: 1st Sharky, 2nd Monarch, 3rd Turbulence
  • Race 2: 1st Reposado/Tsunami 2, 2nd Monarch, 3rd Rum Runner
  • Race 3: 1st Monarch, 2nd Turbulence, 3rd Reposado/Tsunami 2
  • Race 4: 1st Pocket Battleship, 2nd Monarch, 3rd Sharky
Sunday Results:
  • Race 5: 1st Reposado/Tsunami 2, 2nd Pocket Battleship, 3rd Sharky
  • Race 6: 1st Reposado/Tsunami 2, 2nd Seaword, 3rd Racehorse
  • Race 7: 1st Monarch, 2nd Pocket Battleship, 3rd Braveheart
Team Monarch secured 2nd place but would have won had discards been allowed, while Team Pocket Battleship narrowly edged out Team Sharky for 3rd, after a protest resulted in penalty points for Team Sharky.

Strathclyde University triumphed in the Student Boat Award, demonstrating exceptional talent and reinforcing the growing presence of university teams in competitive sailing. The weekend also saw a strong showing from new teams, signaling a bright future for the class.

We're excited to support the development of university sailors and encourage teams to contact us about hiring Class Association boats for future events.

The event was made possible thanks to the support of NCS, Stewart Brewing, and Port Edgar Marina. Special thanks to Port Edgar Yacht Club for their contributions, including the clubhouse, committee boat, and volunteer team, ensuring smooth racing all weekend.

Congratulations to all competitors, especially Team Reposado/Tsunami 2 for their victory, and to Strathclyde University for their success in the student category. We look forward to seeing everyone at our next event!
