Gamla Stans Yacht Sällskap (GSYS) is proud to announce the Stockholm International Team Race Regatta (SITR), a thrilling precursor to the World Championships in Team Racing for keelboats, which GSYS will host in 2026 as the first European club ever to be given this honour.

This year, the event takes an exciting leap into Stockholm's very heart, offering spectacular sailing action right in front of the iconic Stockholm City Hall, in the waters of Riddarfjärden.

Since its inception in 2016, SITR has been held annually on Stockholms Ström, with a short pause during the pandemic. Now, the regatta is ready to make history, bringing the excitement of team racing to one of Stockholm's most breathtaking and accessible locations.

Rooted in a Legacy of Innovation and Excellence

GSYS is more than a yacht club — it is part of the enduring legacy of Jan Stenbeck, the visionary Swedish entrepreneur known for challenging conventions and shaping industries. Founded with the same spirit of boldness and innovation, GSYS continues to push boundaries in the sailing world, combining tradition with forward-thinking to create truly world-class events.

The 2025 edition of SITR will take place May 22-25 and features elite teams from some of the world's most prestigious yacht clubs, including New York Yacht Club, Royal Thames Yacht Club, Bayerischer Yacht-Club, and Annapolis Yacht Club. These teams will compete in the popular J/80 keelboats, offering audiences an up-close and exhilarating experience of world-class sailing.

A Unique Setup in the Heart of Stockholm

This year, SITR is not only about high-level competition but also about creating a vibrant, central hub for participants and spectators. The regatta's operations will be based aboard The Deck, a floating venue moored along Norr Mälarstrand, just steps away from Stockholm City Hall. The Deck will host everything from registration and crew changes to the regatta dinner, providing a dynamic and welcoming base for the event. Its location also offers proximity to Stockholm's vibrant restaurants, cultural landmarks, and scenic views, making it a perfect spot for both sailors and spectators to enjoy.

Team Racing: Exciting and Accessible

Team racing is a dynamic and fast-paced form of sailing that is gaining popularity worldwide, though it remains relatively new to Sweden. Each team consists of eight sailors, evenly split between women and men, competing in two boats per team. The objective is simple: don't finish last. With tight, tactical racing on short windward-leeward courses, team racing demands collaboration, quick decision-making, and razor-sharp strategy. It's a visually engaging and easy-to-follow format that spectators can enjoy even without prior sailing knowledge.

A Spectacular Event

SITR 2025 is expected to attract a wide audience, thanks to its central location and unique setup. Never before has team racing been organized in such a prime location in a major capital city. This is team racing at its best, with Stockholm offering a stunning backdrop for a world-class event.

So, whether you're a sailing enthusiast or just looking for an exciting day out in Stockholm, welcome to The Deck! Watch top-tier teams battle it out on the water and enjoy a lively atmosphere in the heart of the city.
