Book Review - 2001/04 Racing Rules Companion by Brian Willis

by Mark Jardine 3 May 2001 09:26 BST

Brian Willis has long been associated with the racing rules, having been a member of the rule making committee for 22 years. Every four years the famous Rules in Practice is written by Brian Willis that goes through everything, but quite often you want something you can quickly look at out on the water.

So when you want to sort out those niggling doubts you have in a sailing situation then look no further than the Racing Rules Companion. In a ring bound format with splashproof pages this is the ideal rules guide to take out on the water. The most common situations that you’ll find yourself in are covered with diagrams, explanations and the rule number(s) in question.

Also covered are those ‘areas of doubt’ that seem to arise. There is a great explanation of who has right of way in marginal overlap situations going towards a mark at the two boat-length zone.

At the back is an explanation of the flags that can be raised on the committee boat and what they all mean.
