Compaq wins penultimate leg of BT Global Challenge

by BT Challenge 20 Jun 2001 20:12 BST

It's a drag race!

As the rest of the fleet closes in on La Rochelle, France, Leg Six of the BT Global Challenge remains a fight to the finish. Compaq took a bold approach that has paid dividends putting them in an excellent position for the final leg. Logica finish less than two hours behind Compaq after sailing nearly 6000 nautical miles! And with overall Race leader LG FLATRON buried mid-fleet, the Princess Royal Trophy could still be up for grabs.

BP and Isle of Man are expected to finish within hours after nearly 40 days and 40 nights at sea. Go to www.btchallenge.com for late-breaking news and finish coverage.

Then follow the fleet on the final stretch of this epic, 10-month race: Leg Seven, home to Southampton, 26 - 30 June, 2001.
