Race 9
After a long postponement for the wind to settle down the final race got under way with a black flag start following a general recall. The black flag caught out two boats including Robert Graves who was with the leaders during the course of the race, second at the windward. At the windward mark those who had banged right came out on top. Oliver Gray led from ‘Pulling Power’ Georgie Blaver-Mann/ Georgie Akin-Smith. ‘Nasty Tern’ James/Nicholas Howard were third followed by ‘Will 2 Win’ William/James Rusden and Robbie Allam. By the leeward mark Oliver was clear of the rest with William Rusden overtaking James Howard for third. Andrew Mackay was now fifth. The windward mark had been re-positioned by the race officer. At the windward mark Oliver led Georgie followed by William. Fourth was now Sam Pearson who had progressed from mid fleet at the first mark. With the wind dropping the course was shortened at the next leeward mark. First across the line were Oliver Gray and Ed Thomas from Otters to secure the series and become MDL Cadet National Champions for 2002. Second across the line were Georgie Blaver-Mann and third Sam Pearson. Fourth were Robbie Allam and fifth Andrew Mackay.
