B14 World Championships Overall

by Joanne Terrans 23 Jan 2000 10:44 GMT

After a couple of overcast and gloomy days to start, Sydney turned on her blue-sky charm for the competitors in the Second B14 World Championships held on Sydney Harbour 15 - 21 January, 2000.

Except for a gusty day for Heats 5 & 6, when 18 knots was the norm, all other days saw 8 - 12 knot breezes. The breeze direction varied dramatically, which meant the crews got to cover different patches of water throughout the week.

Defending champion Richard Lovering (UK) with his brother Ian as crew sailed well throughout the week but were always challenged by Tim Fells (UK) and Richard Dowsett with never more than four points difference between them.

After ten heats, of which two results were discarded, the World Title was awarded to Tim Fells and his crew Richard Dowsett. Richard & Ian Lovering came in second.

Murray Walters and Rob Brewer on Dimension Polyant Sailcloth and Paul Hansen and James Ellis on Priority Powder Coating were the best placed Australians, finishing overall fifth and sixth respectively.

Results ( table to follow ) :

1st Tim Fells and Richard Dowsett GBR718
2nd Richard Lovering & Ian Lovering GBR743 Slippery
3rd Rob Larke & Roz Allen GBR744
4th Steve Fisher & Neil Barber GBR734
5th Murray Walters & Rob Brewer AUS353 Dimension Polyant Sailcloth
6th Paul Hansen & James Ellis AUS362 Priority Powder Coating
