Dart 16 Travellers at Datchet Water Sailing Club

by Mark Pollard 4 Oct 2002 08:34 BST

The penultimate Dart 16 Traveller’s trophy event of the 5 event series took place on the weekend of the 28-29th September 2002 at Datchet Water reservoir.

The first day’s racing was cancelled due to lack of wind conditions. In the Water Polo event it was The Dart 16 Team made up of Mike Ager, Chris Brook, John Terry and Mike Pollard who overcame the Sheppey team by 3 goals to 2. On the evening the sailors enjoyed live entertainment from a good club singer "no. In Windsor", then the juke Box followed.

On the second day the wind looked like Saturday with no wind at the start, in the morning the sailors slowly crossed the start line. With conditions of force 1 the early race leaders of John Terry and Mike Tozer retained their good starts for Mike to win and John take second place. The four in behind switched places throughout the 1 lap race, final outcome saw Mike Ager & Chris Brook take third position after good battles with Weldon Davies, Steve Roberts and Mark Pollard. The wind increased at the end of the first race to pick up to a force 2-3 wind still with calm water on the reservoir.

It was Mike Tozer again taking an early lead followed by Mike Ager in second and Weldon Davies in third after the first lap. Coming round to start the second lap Mark Pollard & Richard Stacey who were currently in sixth choose a different way to go up the beat, this proved very effective climbing up to 3rd when they rounded the WWM. Out front it was Mike Tozer who took the race win and overall victory in his first TT event in two years. In second it was Mike Ager & Chris Brook with Mark Pollard & Richard Stacey taking the last place in the top 3 in their first ever TT event.
