Dart 16 Travellers at Parkstone Yacht Club

by Ben Daigneault 16 Oct 2002 11:17 BST

The last of the Dart 16 Traveller's trophy events was held at Parkstone on the of the 12th and 13th of October 2002.

Saturday brought force 4-5 westerly winds which was enough to convince the race officer to hold the racing inside the harbour.

Race 1 was led by Ben & Peter Daigneault from Eastbourne, until the second lap due to missing a mark, allowing Mike Ager and Chris Brook from Thames Estaury to take the lead and finish 1st. Ben and Peter came in second followed by John Terry and Ben Harwood from Rutland 3rd.

Race 2 was led by Paul & Steve Roberts from Dee.S.C led from start to finish but were pipped on the line by six inches by Mike & Chris John and Ben again took 3rd. Results remained the same for race 3. On Saturday evening everyone enjoyed a roast dinner and watch a video of the day's racing.

Sunday brought even stronger winds with forecasts of force 8-9 by the afternoon. Therefore it was decided that only one race would be held. Most Dart16 sailors decided not to go with the exception of four. Ben & Peter spent 5 minutes on the water and then came in. Paul & Steve stayed out for a bit longer but came in after a failed attempt to reef the mainsail and Julian Pickering crossed the start line only to capzize. John Terry and Ben Harwood managed to do one lap before a shortend course and just crossed the line before pitchpoling. An enjoyable weekend was had by all even though the rest of Sunday's racing was cancelled.

The winners of the ParkstoneTT & overall TT Champions were Mike Ager & Chris Brook From Thames Estaury Y.C.
