Pacer Open Meeting at Bewl Valley Sailing Club

by Mike Warwicker 30 May 2003 09:06 BST

26-05-03

The Pacers arrived at Bewl in glorious Sunshine, for the all comers handicap, the club and the race officer and his team staged an excellent event.

There was a distinct lack of wind, however that did not deter us from the challenge ahead, the lack of wind ended in the inevitable delay at the start, this was put to good to good use with three of the Pacers putting in some spinnaker training,

The first race was a close affair with the honours going to 1st Mike Warwicker & Giovanna Quinn Pacer (1777), from 2nd Bill Banks & Steve Watkins (1700), 3rd Brian Stratton & Kevin O’Toole (2201), 4th Paul & Claire Lloyd (1433)

Race 2 Saw Bill & Mike tussle for the lead, a spinnaker error saw Bill sail in to the sail sunset leaving a scrap for 2nd place, eventually taken by Mike from Paul then Brian,

Race 3 and all to sail for… an early lead from Mike was overhauled by Bill on the spinnaker leg only for Bill to get in a mess at the gybe mark allowing Mike to get a healthy lead, which he held despite a great fight back from Bill, with Paul 3rd & Brian 4th.
