NSSCA Anglian Water Series - Preview

by David Peel 9 Mar 2007 09:46 GMT

The Northamptonshire Schools Sailing & Canoeing Association (NSSCA) is pleased to announce the running of the Anglian Water Series for another season in 2007. This is a four event series for youth sailors in the East Midlands. One event is held at each of four clubs Hollowell SC – 28th April; Northampton SC 9th June; Banbury SC – 30th June; Cransley SC – 23rd September.

The format is coaching and racing with fleet coaching in the morning, a full debrief over lunch, and three races in the afternoon before a prize giving with trophies for the top three in each fleet. This is the third season this format has been used and it has proved very popular.

The largest single fleet is Toppers and there are also fast and slow handicap fleets with everything from Optimists to 29ers racing. There is also a strong 405 representation. Last year the average number racing at each event was over 30 boats.

The idea behind the series is for local, friendly events that encourage young sailors from the four clubs to start racing. It is though open to all and there have been sailors from as far as Yorkshire and Hampshire over the years with RYA National Junior and Youth Squad sailors participating alongside first time racers. This has provided both advice from top young sailors to those looking to improve and also a standard to aspire to.

For further information visit any of the club websites, the NSSCA website or Russell Brayshaw on 02476 614788.
