Thanet Sailing Regatta 2004 at Margate Yacht Club

For the second year running the 3 Thanet Clubs held their jont regatta weekend, the host this year being Margate Yacht Club.
The fleets were divided into 4 classes racing 2 separate courses, Catamarans and Asymmetrics, Fast and slow Handicap. Saturday saw 2 races back to back with winds force 2 to 3 and overnight winners were Kevin Skinner (Minnis Bay SC) in a Hurricane 5.9, Andy Temple (Broadstairs SC) jointly with Mike Speller (Minnis Bay SC) in an ISO. Leader of the Fast Handicap was Pete Giffen (Broadstairs SC) in a Contender and joint winners in the Slow Handicap were Ron Hawkes (Braodstairs SC) and Gaye Lamb (Margate YC) both in Miracles.
Sunday winds gradually decreased to zero during the first 2 races, the Catamaran and Asymmetircs having to abandon, but during the final race in the afternoon winds increased suddenly with gusts reaching force 6 plus giving the advantage to the more experienced crew.
All competitors had enjoyable sailing in varied conditions. Next year the event will be hosted by Broadstairs SC.

Asymmetric - Mike Speller (MBSC) ISO
Fast Handicap - Chris Rebbeck (BSC) RS300
Slow Handicap - Ron Hawkes (BSC) Miracle
