5 October - 30 November 2008
The Garmin Hamble Winter Series (4th October - 30th November) continues to grow in popularity and in 2008 sees the addition of a new event to complement the Hamble Big Boat Series and Autumn Championships. The new 'Super-Sport Challenge' is a response to the emergence of larger sportsboats that do not fit either the existing SBR class or IRC.
The Super-Sport Challenge will runalongside the successful Hamble Big Boat Series on 4/5 & 18/19 October. The SBR rating system is being used and specially extended to rate any fast lightweight boats up to 11 metres (36 ft) overall length. Interest to enter has been received so far from Ian Wilson (modified Ultra 30), Jeremy Aitchison (Tofinou 9.5), Joe Woods (Melges 32), Tony Rayer (Sports 8), Mike Browne (Big Grin) and Joe Richards' 36-foot 'Full Pelt'.
The Garmin main series racing groups, Black and White, will have two and three races on each Sunday, and the Laser SB3 Autumn Championship is now extended to fourteen races over two weekends (11/12 & 25/26 Oct.). Yachts & Yachting is one of the day sponsors and full details and Notices of Race are on-line now at www.garminhamblewinterseries.co.uk - with main series early entry discounts until September 12th.
