405 Inland Championships at Northampton Sailing Club

by Andrew Rimmer 28 Oct 2008 06:25 GMT 25-26 October 2008

Northampton SC was the venue for the Hobie 405 Inland championships on 25/26th October.

Five youth crews took to the water for Race 1 in winds gusting to 20kts and after many capsizes the fleet was reduced to two boats with Patrick Ford and Nicole Rimmer sailing a strong race to win followed by Stuart Harris and Henry Maynard.

Race 2 and increased wind saw spectacular three sail reaches and after a close fight a win for Harris/Maynard.

Ford/Rimmer were over the line at the start of Race 3 but clawed back to take another win and the overnight lead by one point over Harris/ Maynard.

Sunday dawned with lighter winds and one win each for Harris/Maynard and Ford/Rimmer before lunch with two third places for Sully Irvine and Hannah Livingstone.

With still just one point between the leaders into the afternoon Harris/Maynard had to return from a premature start in race 6 and despite overhauling Illing/Livingstone they couldn’t catch Ford/Rimmer who sailed a faultless race to clinch the championship.

In Race 7 Harris/Maynard capsized onto Ford/Rimmer at the windward mark letting through Irvine/Livingstone who held the lead for the rest of the race to win.

Thanks must go to Northampton SC for their hospitality, the diligent rescue crews and Ian Castle Commodore for presenting the prizes.

Overall Results:

1st Patrick Ford & Nicole Rimmer (Notts County SC/Banbury SC)
2nd Stuart Harris & Henry Maynard (Banbury SC)
3rd Sully Illing & Hannah Livingstone (Northampton SC)
4th Glen Burrows & Aldmar Jonbert (Northampton SC)
5th James & David Scobie (Banbury SC)
