The 3000 class has introduced a new Dacron jib to fit on both the latest boats built by Vandercraft and the original Laser 3000's, alongside the existing battened Mylar racing jib.
Originally conceived as a training jib which would prove more tolerant of being allowed to flap for longer periods and make the boat easier to sail, the new Dacron jib has proved to be pretty much as quick in initial trials as the larger, Mylar racing jib. It also permits the use of a furler on the Vandercraft boats - something which Laser 3000 owners have long appreciated for its convenience and sail-preserving properties; while launching and recovering, the jib can be furled, minimising noise and wear.
The new Dacron jibs can be had through the usual source of all things 3000, Vandercraft.
