Laser 2 Open at Datchet Water Sailing Club

2-3 October 2004
Datchet Water Sailing Club kindly rescheduled the Laser 2 event for the Datchet Bowl, from earlier in the year due to a flat calm. By contrast Saturday was a 'full on' blustery day, with gusts recorded on the water of 30 knots, more than making up for the earler disappointment.
The fleet of 10 Laser 2's thoroughly enjoyed the flat out upwind sailing followed by the blasting downwind with straining rigs and kites in the 20 Knot plus wind fully testing all crews to the limit.
Outright winners on day 1 were Nigel Skudder and Keith Hills from Starcross with 2 victories and a 2nd, followed by Helen Carrol and Brian Mobbs from Blackwater.
Day 2 dawned lighter and shiftier, more to Helen and Brian's liking and they posted 2 good wins, tightening up the overall results going into the final race. Nigel and Keith won both the start and the bullet of the final race to claim the Datchet Bowl ahead of Helen and Brian, followed closely by the much improved David and James from the Surrey University team.
