Hot pink sails heat up Miami
The 29erXX SEIKO Superbowl regatta began today under slight showers and a fresh breeze. Despite starting behind the fleet, Hannah Nattrass with crew Graham Biehl were first to round the weather mark and never looked back, taking a wire-to-wire win for the first race of the event. Asked about her first time driving from the wire, Nattrass commented, “I found it quite easy, once you get the sails set up and you’re comfortable with the crew I find if you let the boat do its thing you don’t have to adjust and I found it quite easy.”
Second across the line were Piet Vanos and CC Childers (USA) followed by Francesco Piccini and Sofia Tedin (ARG) in third.
Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate and as the wind slowly died after the finish, the storm clouds gathered and the fleet was sent in, barely making the dock when the first squall line hit.
More races are scheduled for tomorrow with the final day on Wednesday. Video and photos can be found on www.sailgroove.org, Facebook, 29erXX sailing, and full results at www.29er.org
