Fickle light winds and complementary bacon sandwiches greeted 19 young sailors and their parents at the second regatta of the Yorkshire & Humberside RYA Travellers Series, held at Scammonden Water Sailing Club on Saturday 1st May.
In the first race the leading Toppers kept up well with the faster boats to take line honours on boat handicap. Andrew Robinson (Hudds SC) won with Isaac Marsh representing home Club Scammonden closely behind.
After lunch and a postponement, the second race proved just as close; this time Isaac managed to overtake Andrew and defend his position to take the race.
This left the overall result depending on the deciding third race. Andrew started well in the strengthening breeze, but Isaac attacked over a fast reach and took the lead, which he held up until the very last 10 minutes of the race, when Andrew slipped through to take the race and the regatta.
Overall Results:
1st Andrew Robinson, Topper (Huddersfield SC)
2nd Isaac Marsh, Topper (Scammonden Water Sailing Club)
3rd Adam Simms, Laser (Yeadon Sailing Club)
